College ‘Bound’

Massachusetts Universities have become state sponsored profit centers instead of institutes of learning.  Our college bound young adults increasingly face a choice between higher education and personal bankruptcy.  Universities boast ‘low’ tuition but ultimately gouge students with ridiculous fees for everything you could possibly imagine.

Required books are another way the colleges rake in the dough.  It’s not unusual for a book to cost over $400 and hardly be used during the semester.  In addition to purchasing the book, students often must pay for an online access fee to complete homework assignments. Considering the ready access of laptops/computers and the resources and staff available to the universities most, if not all, course books could be easily written and published and made available for free download or viewing to all students.

For many, college is already stressful enough.  A college education should open doors, not close them.

I invite students and parents to comment and share their experience.
