I believe, as Bernie Sanders does, healthcare should, indeed, be treated as a right. Moreover, if it is to be treated as a right, it should not represent any financial burden to anyone. Free healthcare is attainable if we can achieve a dramatic shift in our nation’s long-term objectives and budgets.
We must also repeal the restrictions imposed on imported prescription drugs, allowing the pharmaceutical industry to compete in a fair marketplace, not a contrived monopoly.
If our government refuses to budge on health care, I would advocate for and sponsor legislation promoting the creation of a national health care cooperative, owned, controlled and operated by the entire population via regional boards.
